Company Law
In India, corporations were governed by the Companies Act 1956 until the enactment of Companies Act 2013 in 2013 and subsequent amendments to it. The Law governs company’s incorporation, responsibilities, Directors’ responsibilities till its dissolution

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) & Allied
Established in 1992, SEBI governs India’ capital markets and corporations’ trading and trading related matters.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) & The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
Stock Exchanges provide for trading, clearing and settlement services in equity, equity derivatives, debt and currency derivatives segments of capital markets. In India, BSE was established in 1875 while NSE came into existence in 1992 and today they are considered world’s 11th largest and 12 largest stock exchanges, respectively.

Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Registrar of Companies (ROC), Serious Frauds Office
ROC came into existence with the Companies Act 1956. ROC’s prime responsibility is to register companies and LLPs in respective states and union territories of India and administer. ROC comes directly under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs which is responsible for enactment and administration of Companies Act 1956 and the Companies Act 2013.

Registrar of Companies (ROC)
ROC came into existence with the Companies Act 1956. ROC’s prime responsibility is to register companies and LLPs in respective states and union territories of India and administer. ROC comes directly under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs which is responsible for enactment and administration of Companies Act 1956 and the Companies Act 2013.

National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)
Established in June 2016, NCLT is a Quasi-judicial body that adjudicates the legal matters related to companies. Including one Principal bench in Delhi, the Tribunal has 11 branches across India. It takes care of matters pending before The Company Law Board, Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) under Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act 1985, Appellate Authority for Industrial & Financial Reconstruction and for claims of oppression and mismanagement of a Company.

Besides these entities, other such authorities include Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), Secretariat of Industrial Approvals (SIA), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) etc. govern various aspects of business.
